What’s Included in the Quote?
As a homeowner, there are a few key things you need to know about what’s included in your quote, including:
- Does the quote include materials?
- Is it an hourly quote, and if so, what is the cost/repercussion if the contractor goes over time?
- How many crew members are included?
- Is a deposit required?
- How soon can work begin? What is the targeted end date?
- Does the quote cover the entire job or just a portion of it?
Does the Painting Quote Expire?
Most contractors will provide a quote with an expiration date. This allows for changes in material costs as well as workload. However, if the contractor provides a quote but cannot begin the job until the quote expires, they should still honor the original price – unless you’ve requested changes.
Is Your Paint Contractor Insured?
The cost of insurance usually isn’t a line item on a quote. Still, a reputable contractor can provide proof of insurance, including worker’s comp, when asked. This is important. If a worker gets hurt while working in or on your home, you can be held liable if the contractor does not have insurance. If a contractor provides proof of insurance but doesn’t seem legitimate, call the number on the certificate to confirm that it is valid and the policy is still in place. Lapsed insurance puts you in the liability seat.
