One of the most-requested questions we receive from homeowners are questions about the top color choices we see when we’re out and about in people’s homes in north metro Atlanta.
Many homeowners agree that painting is a great way to add style and color to their home but aren’t sure where to start regarding color preferences.
First, we advise our clients to consider what type of look they want to achieve for their home. Is it bright and bold, or more subtle, natural neutrals? This will help you narrow down your color options to create the perfect color palette for your space. With this in mind, here are a few of the latest paint trends we’re seeing and reading about in 2023.
2023’s Top Interior Paint Colors
Brown: Homeowners are embracing the earthy hues of warmer browns, taking inspiration from the world around them, and replacing the cooler grays that have been popular over the last few years. People looking to add warmth inside with different energy can be achieved with shades of brown. Brown can also help with feelings of being grounded and more connected to nature.
Red: These are not the hues of the mid-90s–the shades of red clients are considering for their own homes are more energetic and richer than the reds of the past. Shades of cherry, berry, wine, and even bold magenta, are popping up in homes nationwide. Consider a muted or darker shade if you want to play around with color without the full brightness of a true red. This color trend could be a boost from Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year, Viva Magenta, a crimson hue with a unique balance of cool and warm undertones.
Warm Neutrals: In recent months, we’re seeing the neutral pendulum shift the other way to warmer shades of whites, beiges, tans, and grays. This is a shift from the cooler gray tones we’ve seen in many north metro Atlanta homes over the last 8-10 years.
Green: Emerald, Olive, and everything in between–green is a show-stopping color for some added drama on your walls. Last year, green gained popularity as a top choice, and now we’re seeing green used increasingly as a neutral, not just in punchy bright shades. Paired with tropical brights like aqua, mandarin, or rich purples, or understated, calming neutrals, green has long-been a chosen color associated with nature, balance, and calm. A green accent wall can also add depth to the room and help draw attention to a specific area of your home.
2023’s Top Exterior Paint Colors
White: Shades of white haven’t lost their appeal, but homeowners are leaning towards creamy, warmer white rather than cooler shades of the past.
Earth Tones: Much like the interiors, homeowners are choosing dark, earthy tones for the exterior of their homes as well. Darker shades of gray and brown can create warm, inviting spaces on the outside, especially when paired with lighter trim.
Monochrome: We’re also seeing a return to monochrome, both in interiors and exteriors. Homeowners are considering a return to the sophisticated look of monochromatic palettes rather than some of the bold, high-contrast combinations we’ve seen in the last few years.
