Fast Fixes for May

May 15, 2014

Protecting Hardwood FloorsThe hot Georgia summer temperatures will be here before you know it, so take care of things around the house before it’s too hot to be outside. Here are a few fast fixes you can do this month to keep your home in tip top shape.

1. Refresh Old Paintbrushes

When the temperatures are too hot to be outside, it’s a great time to be inside giving your home a fresh coat of paint. But, before you can get started, you’ve got to have paint brushes that are in working order. Refresh your old paint brushes by soaking them in hot vinegar for 30 minutes. Then, wash them off with hot soapy water, brushing off gunky paint as you go. Let them dry – and voila! They are good as new.

2. Shield the Hardwood from Harsh Sun

Everyone knows that UV rays damage your skin – but did you know that they damage your hardwood floors too? UV rays will damage any organic material, including your hardwood floors. To protect them before the summer sun shines down, cover your windows with curtains, blinds, or some of the reflective, UV material for windows.

3. Touch Up Exterior Paint on Trim or Front Door

The easiest way to make the exterior of your home look better for a low cost is simply by touching up the paint on your trim or giving your front door a fresh coat of paint. The exterior of your home is important when it comes to first impressions for visitors and potential buyers. If you don’t want to invest the time or money in painting the entire exterior of your house, “cheat” and get the same fresh look for a significantly smaller investment.
